PE: Learning to paint with deviantArt
A lot of people want to learn to draw and paint better but they just don't know where to start. You don't need an expensive art course to learn and progress, sometimes the answers are not far away. On DeviantArt, artists not only share their artworks but many of them are willing to share their working secrets, they create tutorials and FAQ journals or simply answer to your notes if you ask them. When you know what you want to improve, searching for a good tip gets even easier.

Small steps: Preventing Art Theft on dA by Astrikos, journal
Small steps: Preventing Art Theft on dA
Permission Issues and Art theft: It's sadly a common thing now.
It is a huge problem on deviantART/ internetz.
But wait! IDK what art theft is..Then Read this!
Art theft is unacceptable. Think about how long people spend on their works. And how much of themselves go into it. Now someone else has spent 0 seconds and claimed it as theirs. NO.
You must credit resources. That includes OCs, stocks, brushes, textures, snippets of code(no, changing the colors of a journal skin does not mean you made it) , tutorials(sometimes).
Written credits. Google images is not good enough.

Character Design: An introduction by WendiBones, journal
Character Design: An introduction
Arvalis-2012 by arvalis (https://www.deviantart.com/arvalis)
What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be
The 50 Foot / 50 Hand Challenge! CLOSED! by AdorkaStock, journal
The 50 Foot / 50 Hand Challenge! CLOSED!
THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED! But feel free to do it just for fun/improvement!
This was a drawing challenge from `AdorkaStock (https://www.deviantart.com/adorkastock) and :iconmostlyguystock:!
Hands and feet are pretty hard to draw. Lots of artists struggle with them! Even when other things come naturally, hands and feet can still be quite a problem. The best way to get better at drawing hands and feet is to study them!
The Challenge: Sketch or draw 50 feet AND 50 hands from reference photos or life.
Deadline: The deadline has passed for this challenge, but you can still participate and make yourself a better artist!
You can post them as one giant post, in groups, one at a
Attention, don't give away your work! by Talty, journal
Attention, don't give away your work!
If possible please :+fav: this news article so that more people can see it and be wary, thank you!
This week I received messages from two different people (through Etsy and Storenvy) offering to make a review of my work. They splattered huge statics, like having millions of instagram followers, popularity, or having done it before and making people famous. Of course, their generosity was conditioned by me agreeing to send them some of my work for free. While I don't object the concept of reviewing someone's work, I worry that this has become a popular way of scamming artisan crafters to give away their work for free with promises of e

PE: Giving and Receiving Quality Feedback
Giving and Receiving Feedback
One of the most useful things on deviantart is the option to give and receive feedback. There are different kinds of feedback. This article aims to inform you on how to give quality feedback and hopefully receive it.
Types of Feedback
Comments
One of the quickest ways to interact with others. From journals, to forums, to art, to profiles, comments are used everywhere. However, the quality can range from spam, to constructive.
Critiques
Any deviant can write them,(~,*,=,`,^ etc.) but only premium members can request them. Constructive comments can substitute for these. Critiques take some time to write, and r

Hello everyone. It's been a while again hasn't it? I was really busy on here last month but this month, not so much. I guess it's mainly because I was so preoccupied playing Harvest Moon: A New Beginning. I got it on the 2nd and I've already finished the main storyline a couple days ago. Don't think I've ever beaten an HM game that fast . . . it was just so addictive, once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. Almost TOO much fun XD
Anyway, though I haven't been that active this past month I've been logging in every now and then, just not doing much. I'm gonna try to get through all my notifications soon-ish . . . and I'll start posting art
Hello everyone. Today is Canadian Thanksgiving. If you're Canadian like me, I hope you have a good Thanksgiving Day. If you're not, or if you just don't celebrate Thanksgiving . . . well, I hope you have a good day anyway :aww:
Today, I'm just gonna relax. I was sick this morning, but I feel better now. And I don't have to work today, thank goodness XD
That's all. Bye for now.
OK, wow, it's been a while, hasn't it?
Actually, this is not the first time I abandoned dA and came back, so it's not that surprising, but whatever.
I think I jinxed it when I said 2012 was gonna be a good year. Haha. Not gonna get too deep into it but . . . yeah. I've been so preoccupied with sorting through all this stuff I've been going through I completely lost all interest in drawing and art. It's a horrible feeling. I'd pick up a pencil and just feel totally hopeless. For a long time I felt like I lost a limb or something . . . I don't know if I'm articulating myself well, but I just couldn't do it. I know I probably sound like a lose
